The former New England Log Home redevelopment project, located at 100 Bridge Street along the Housatonic River in downtown Great Barrington, Massachusetts, is a major community transformation spearheaded by Impact South County.
The project is turning an 8-acre abandoned property into a sustainable, mixed-use community hub featuring affordable housing and public riverfront access.
Key Features of this Redevelopment
The redevelopment project was designed to address the region’s housing crisis while revitalizing downtown Great Barrington:
- The Bentley Apartments: Serving as the cornerstone of the redevelopment, this complex consists of 45 units of high-quality, energy-efficient affordable rental housing across two three-story buildings. Developed in partnership with Hearthway (formerly Berkshire Housing Development Corporation), it provides one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for low-to-moderate-income families within walking distance of downtown jobs and services.
- Public Riverfront Park: The design dedicated 2 acres to a public Riverfront Park, a restored riverfront walk along the Housatonic, and a large village green for community gathering spaces.

Currently, Impact South County is working closely with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct subsurface soil and water sampling. This deep drilling allows environmental agencies to analyze the lower soil layers and determine any necessary cleanup actions required before Impact South County can move forward with its Workforce Housing project.
